QGIS at the State of Minnesota, Department of Education

For certain geospatial professionals, having a wide variety of tools at your disposal is an operational
necessity. In this presentation, the GIS Coordinator for a state education department will discuss his
reasoning for maintaining access to multiple tools, and why QGIS is in that toolset. He’ll detail his uses of
QGIS for the following:
– Cartography. Examples will be shown with a particular focus on labeling, symbolization, and
themes.
– Atlases. The presenter will discuss building an atlas of over 300 school district maps.
– US Census work. An overview of participating in the US Census via the Geographic Update
Partnership Software (GUPS).
Additional discussions may arise, such as map accessibility, or future plans for using QGIS for data
management in PostgreSQL.
