QGIS is more than just a viewer for PostGIS data. In an enterprise environment, users are able to centralize QGIS projects, symbology, attribute forms, key business logic, and custom tools. By leveraging many of the functions within PostgreSQL, such as trigger functions, database constraints, and the permission system, users are able to have full control over their data lifecycle. This presentation will discuss an ongoing project to build a telecom design application using QGIS and PostGIS. With a total of 93 related tables representing both spatial and tabular data, the database was designed with a number of trigger functions (spatial and non-spatial), an audit table to monitor progress and track errors, dynamic symbology that pulls values from multiple tables, complex QGIS attribute forms, and multi-user editing. In the end, we are building a scalable platform that can be used by 5, 10, or 1000+ users concurrently.
